Native American Iroquois name meaning "of the earth."
Onatah was created to represent the elemental goddess of earth, symbolizing nature as a life bearer and mother constantly giving birth to new creation.
This piece was created through the duration of my pregnancy with my daughter. As she grew within me, so did this piece and the vision I wanted to portray.
As with most of my pieces, it began as an idea that underwent a transformation along the way. I had found the beautiful piece of driftwood and wanted to unify the sculpture and the wood as one. My vision was strong and I wanted to depict the connection between the earth and humanity, which is constantly changing and giving birth to new life.
Dimensions:
Clay, driftwood, moss, lichen, lava rock
